From the day your child is born, they are exposed to all sorts of diseases; therefore, you need to ensure that they receive their
vaccination shot on time.
Wellness checks are something that every child has to go through more frequently during the first year of their life—and less and less as they grow up.
This is how routine checkups from a pediatric clinic help kids make it through the first 12 months of their lives.
First Two Weeks
After the first couple of days, a checkup is carried out to see if the baby responds to noise. They should sleep most of the day, say 18 or 20 hours. Pee, poop, and feed are looked into; they are also checked for signs of jaundice or heart murmurs. Your child is also vaccinated against hepatitis-B (Hep B) around this time.
A bunch of tests are carried out to check hormone levels.
Two-month Mark
Your baby’s primary care doctor might recommend a checkup at the one or two-month mark, and immunize your child against Hep B, rotavirus (RV), and a bunch of other viral and bacterial diseases.
They will also make suggestions for sleeping habits, like back and tummy time for proper muscle growth.
Four-month Mark
During this checkup, we make sure that your baby can sit up with some help and roll over; that they have started making little sounds. You might be recommended to start introducing solid food into their diet, as well. Again, they are vaccinated against RV, tetanus, inactivated polio, and other viruses.
Six-month Mark
Sleeping habits are revisited; we recommend sleep training if your baby is having trouble sleeping through the night. Solid foods should be introduced at this time, if not done so previously.
Influenza vaccine, too, is introduced at this stage.
Nine-month Mark
We check whether your baby is growing at a normal pace during this well-child visit. Whether they are walking with support yet, or if they have started to say words like ‘mama’ or ‘dada.’
Make sure to ask questions as soon as you have any. If you don’t, ask the doctor what it is that you need to be asking. Ignorance on the subject can lead to missed signs, so be well-informed.
