Recognizing Symptoms of Strep Throat
You might notice several signs in your child that could indicate strep throat:
- Sore
Throat: Severe and sudden sore throat, often without coughing.
- Red
and Swollen Tonsils: Tonsils that are red and swollen, sometimes with
white patches or streaks of pus.
- Painful
Swallowing: Difficulty and pain when swallowing.
- Fever:
High fever, often above 101°F (38.3°C).
- Headache:
Persistent headaches accompanying the sore throat.
- Swollen
Lymph Nodes: Tender and swollen lymph nodes in the neck.
- Rash:
A fine, red rash that feels like sandpaper, known as scarlet fever, which
sometimes accompanies strep throat.
- Nausea
or Vomiting: Gastrointestinal symptoms, particularly in younger
children.
