A Quick Look at Developmental Problems Infants Could Face

Children don’t develop skills at the same pace and time. However, most parents worry when their children aren’t meeting developmental milestones. If your child is experiencing any of these developmental problems, it might be time to visit a Pediatrician Stone oak:

1. Social, Emotional, and Behavioral Delays

Children who have developmental delays, including neurobehavioral disorders like attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism spectrum disorder, tend to have emotional, behavioral, or social delays. They react to their environment or process information differently from children their age, due to differences in brain development. These delays affect a child’s ability to communicate, interact, and learn with others. Social and emotional difficulties are common traits of developmental delays. Children may have trouble initiating or carrying on communication with others or understanding social cues. They may likewise experience issues managing frustration or adapting to change. When their environment is socially or emotionally demanding, these children may exhibit delayed tantrums and take longer than other children to quiet down. This conduct can signify that the child needs more help by altering their environment or learning skills to adapt to their social and emotional difficulties.

2.Cognitive delay

Cognitive delays tend to influence a child’s intellectual functioning, meddling with mindfulness and causing learning troubles that become clearer once they begin going to school. Children with cognitive delays find it challenging to communicate and play with other children their age. These delays often occur when a child experiences a brain injury caused by an infection, such as meningitis, seizure disorders, chromosomal disorders, and Shaken Baby Syndrome. Experienced pediatricians can often deduce the exact reason for the type of cognitive delay your child may be experiencing.

3.Motor Delays

Gross motor delay in infants is often noticeable when infants have difficulty rolling over or crawling. At the same time, older children may have trouble walking up a flight of stairs or might display clumsy behavior. Fine motor skills require eye-hand coordination. When there’s a delay in such skills, a child can’t use their hands and fingers to hold small objects and do simple tasks, such as brushing their teeth or tying their shoelaces. Some motor delays often result from genetic conditions like achondroplasia, which causes the limbs to shorten, and cerebral palsy or muscular dystrophy, which affect the muscles. They may also be caused by structural problems, such as a discrepancy in limb length. Developmental delays should not be ignored as they can continue to be prevalent in your child’s adult life, if they’re not treated in a timely manner.
